I like this project because I believe it is doing some good for everyone. Any other retirees on the project? |

There are a few of these projects that do a lot of good. Check the team website for a list of them. |

Glad to be here and also on the GPUGrid project. Been here a few years also. I joined Air Force team because I was a Air Force MARS operator. Never been in the US Military at all. Still have my draft card for VietNam if that counts for anything. Used to do SETI but my computer kept crashing so I had to stop SETI before all my projects were trashed. Might go back and do that again. Tally Ho ... |

Hi Mike Nice to see another face around here LOL. Mars, I used to use them for moral calls when I was in Desert Storm and stationed in the Azores. Great group of People in my book providing great service not only to the Country but to service men and women all over the world... I have found that Seti can cause overheating on occasions and so I installed Tthrottle to control GPU and CPU temps while crouching numbers. It has helped an awful lot with Computer Freeze Ups. Thanks for the hat tip to MARS. I'm just so sorry that it went the way of the DODO bird. I enjoyed it so much I became a net control when Shaw AFB went off the MARS frequencies. Two days a week for 3 hours I would take the net and control it. Felt like I was doing something for the people of the military as I had never been in the military. When we moved into a apartment the antennae went away and that was the end of MARS for me, it wasn't long after that every thing came to a mostly screeching halt. Technology took over and it became easier to use video , plus you could now see your family and use more then 25 words or less to talk to them. Thanks on the info about SETI it may well have been overheating. I have liquid cooling now and just haven't tried it since then as I was so frustrated with it. Of course my numbers on GPUgrid will go down if I split time is the only problem. The new founder and I are the only two holding up the team over there. So maybe I'll just keep it where it is as my computer is doing heavy loads over there. We're in 72nd place with over 500K credits. Well we'll see. Thanks and take care. |

Yes the Net vs Internet. it changed a lot of things and I'm not saying all for the better. I run a watercooled box with SLI Nvidia GTX 970's. The CPU is water cooled but the Nvidia card are not. They would get rather warm when crunching Seti data. THat's usually when I would get freezes. Also I know that heat will shorten the life of the system I thought I would just throttle it down when the temps on the Video cards got higher that 66 Deg Celsius. The CPU with water cooling hardly ever gets about 47 Deg Celsius but I do have TThrotte set to not let it go above 60 just in case :) Kinda nice to know that it's being monitored by other than bios. In any case Mike keep on crunching. Jim USAF Projects Page My Home Site |
